Homeopathy and ADD/ADHD
By Susy Parker Goins
My child won’t sit still! Or pay attention. Or keep his hands out of his pants. Or … So what’s a parent to do?
Consider homeopathy. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, homeopathy can bring about some amazing changes – gentle, permanent changes in a child diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.
To get your child through an acute (sudden onset) episode, consider the following remedies. Then place a call to your nearby homeopath to have a complete consultation to get you and your child on the path to better health.
Arsenicum album works best for fear, fright, worry, restlessness or great anguish. These children worry about it all. They pay way too much attention to detail. The Arsenicum child throws the mother of all fits when he is left because he fears abandonment. He may be selfish and possessive with his stuff. And his restlessness is worse at night, especially after midnight.
Chamomilla is another remedy for restlessness and anger. Your Chamomilla kid can drive you crazy every day by trying your patience, pushing your buttons. She’s incredibly cranky and defiant. Sh demands something -- then as soon as you produce, refuses it. She’s only happy when she’s being carried all the time …But even an attachment parenting mother’s arms get tired sometimes!
For the child who doesn’t think his actions through, try
Argentum nitricum. He gets so excited waiting for a special event. Sugar also sets him off. He is easily scared and harbors all sorts of fears, like the fear of being left alone or of being abandoned. You have to watch what you say around him because he’s so impressionable.
For mental restlessness, look to Rhux toxicodendron. Not only is this kid running around at 90 to nothing, he thinks that way too. He gets so frustrated so fast and gets impatient. He gets most restless at night.
Drank any coffee lately? Does it seem like your child has? Coffea cruda treats just that sort of symptom: nervous and restless. She’s oversensitive and easily excited. She gets so overstimulated that it’s hard to calm her down.
While these remedies can help you get through a day, they are not the permanent fix you may hope for. An experienced homeopath will sit down with you and get an overall picture of your child’s health. Then she can recommend which heavy-hitting remedy will be best for your child. There are many cases of children and adults who have benefited from homeopathic treatments.
